My New Normal

Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Last Sunday, my pals and I spent the afternoon eating and drinking our way through Venice. We brunched at my friend’s beachside bungalow and walked along Abbot Kinney Blvd. I am really beginning to love life on the Westside and this street, in particular, is a selling point. If you’ve never been, you should add it to your travel list. It’s home to some of the quaintest shops, coffee spots and eateries along the California coast and it also happens to be the land of interesting people. I love it.

At one point during the day, I stepped off onto a little side street to snap a few pictures with my friend. I thought it was quaint and quiet enough for picture taking. Wrong.  I definitely went a little crazy with Photoshop in this post but what is not pictured:  Christmas carolers, locals who stopped to pose with me, puppies, pugs, scruffy dogs, hipster after hipster, oh yea and there was a fight between two homeless guys that broke out behind me too. We had to stop and go hide out in a little shop for a few moments until they stopped.  If it sounds exciting and eventful, it was.

I wore a bowtie blouse and high-waisted skinnies, which doesn’t scream Venice, but I can’t help it. It’s all I am about right now. I wear bowtie tops to breakfast lunch and dinner and nobody can stop me. If it’s got a bow around the neck, I am wearing it. Oh and this particular peach one from Forever 21 is very inexpensive, so grab one— or ten.

Time got away from me this week- I cannot believe it is already Friday!  That being said, today’s post is going to be short and sweet because, well, to be honest, I am running so late that I am brushing my teeth as we speak…but hey there are no rules because it’s Friday!

Today I decided to keep things really simple.  I played around with textures, mixing the white capped-sleeve crochet top with a high-waisted ruffle skirt.  I also added this adorable Chevron clutch from 9th & Elm.  It’s got an adorable vintage feel to it. Again, if you haven’t checked out 9th & Elm yet, I love it because everything is handmade by independent designers, making them one of a kind.  Whether it’s a denim or a pastel, a sky or royal, blue is a color we find ourselves weaving in and out of our wardrobes every season.  It just so happens that in the summer, the hues are a bit brighter and today, hopefully my bold blues will distract from my tardiness!

Just Peachy.

August 14, 2014.

West Hollywood, CA.

For the home stretch of summer, I am breaking out some of my sunniest paisley and floral printed shorts.  August is so wonderful because it’s the month that opens the door for us to begin to play with fall fashion trends, but it still encourages the wearing of the whites and brights that summer calls for.  Choosing a vibrant print, similar to the ones I have on here, as the focal point of the outfit, is easy this season because the options are endless: florals, abstract graphics, tropical, polka-dot-you name it it’s out there!

I paired these silky Forever21shorts with a woven peach tank, also from Forever21.  It adds just the right amount of texture to the outfit and I kept my accessories simple.  If you’re looking to snag some last minute steals, I have picked out some more of my favorite printed shorts below- all for under $50!
