Barcelona in a Blur.

Las Ramblas. Barcelona, Spain.

I arrived in Barcelona, at midnight on June 23rd, to find a city that was in full swing.  Restaurants were jam-packed, kids roamed the streets with firecrackers, and the beaches swarmed with people.  Truly a city that did not sleep- well except between the hours of 12p-4p (their daily siesta)- Barcelona, known for it’s late-night nightlife had an even more electric atmosphere on the night of my arrival.  It was the Feast of Saint Jaun, their Summer Solstice, and the shortest, (but craziest party) night of the year.  It’s a public holiday in Barcelona and attempting to sleep that night amongst the constant crack of fireworks outside the window was a bit of a challenge, but it certainly reminded me that I was far from home! We ran through the streets at 1:30 AM and grabbed a delicious ham & cheese sandwich (their ham is so fresh and delicious- I ate it for breakfast lunch and dinner), sipped Coronas on our balcony and marveled at the chaos that was all around us.

After my initial introduction to Spain, things settled down a bit and I went off and explored the beautiful architecture in the area, most notably the work of the great Gaudi.  We toured the Segrada Familia and Park Guell, two very different parts of the city but both simply beautiful.  I had never seen anything like Segrada, with ceilings that seemed to reach the heavens, I was taken aback a bit by the detail and beauty of this historical church, which has become a landmark of the city.  We caught some of the best glimpses of the city, though, at Park Guell, sipping sangria and hiking up to the various lookout spots along the way.

Another favorite famous spot of ours was Las Ramblas.  We caught a Flamanco dancing show, ate until we could eat no more, and drank a liter of sangria!  The food in Barcelona was my favorite of all the recent stops on my epic vacation and it was because everything was just so fresh and really cheap too!  The locals were friendly, always encouraging our attempts to speak the native tongue and overall this place is just a great place to enjoy the beaches, great food, and exciting nightlife!

Because a good portion of my stay in Barcelona was cut short due to travel, we packed a lot in to a couple days and so I never had lots of time to get ready.  Therefore, this adorable little geo print dress from Forever21 was perfect for the afternoon/evening  of exploring this exciting and humid city!  I even decided to get real fancy and throw on my chocolate wedges from Marshalls. The crowded streets of Las Ramblas really don’t allow for much more of a heel than these!  You'll notice that I wore another blue paisley airy dress from Forever21 on the other day I spent in Spain- when in Spain, you gotta get ready on the fly!

Oh take me back!

Time & Travel.

LA --> Boston & Back.

Whenever I travel, I usually have great big lofty goals of keeping up with the blog- it seems so easy in theory- but then attending events, catching up with family, loved ones, friends, and ya know all the other real purposes of my vacation get in the way and so I’m often left wondering, as I am right now on this Virgin America flight headed back to LAX, where has all my time gone?  I'm wondering that and if I'm being totally honest, I'm also wondering why the lady next to me thinks it's a good idea to blast the movie, Gravity, so loud that I'm also being forced to follow along with Sandra's every panic-filled moment.  I don't know about you guys, but I like things that put me at ease when I'm flying thousands of miles above land in a plane, not things that remind me of just how real it can get when the machinery taking me up above the puffy beautiful clouds- malfunctions.  Ok but anyways back to my point. Vacation time just has a way of moving at a glorious yet all too rapid pace, and this past getaway back to my home of New England, was no different.

While the trip was packed with catching up with close friends and family and some highlights included an overnight trip to the beach on my parents boat, a late night BBQ and an afternoon stroll through my favorite little town, Newburyport, the main event of the weekend was Eric’s graduation.  At a beautiful ceremony at the Wang Theatre in Boston, MIT honored its MBA graduates.  Equally impressed and so very proud, I was reminded yet again just how quickly time slips by.  It feels like it was just a couple months ago that he was beginning classes over at MIT, walking me around campus, and introducing me to all of his new friends.  And now, while it will certainly be wonderful for us to be in the same city, it was a bit bittersweet (even for me) to say goodbye to the fun little town of Cambridge, the local bars and delicious restaurants we’ve frequented and made our favorites and above all, Eric’s roommates who’ve become like family.  While life will certainly take you in all kinds of directions, with different cities and great pubs to get you by along the way, great friends are the finds you get to hang on to forever!

These photos were actually taken last week on the day that we took off for our trip back east but they represent a great travel day outfit and so I figured it was fitting for today.  With longer flights, time changes, and also changes in weather to account for, you have to make sure that you can wear something that is casual, light, and comfortable.  I also really love this look because it covers my face and hair- ha! When you are rushing to pack and get to the airport on time, it’s nice to find a look that requires little to NO effort, while still maintaining a bit of your fashionable cute self.  I don’t know, you might be one of those people who travels in heels and a full set of makeup- but I have never been that skilled so I go with the covered look and it works pretty well.  Keep this in mind for your upcoming summer travel & let me know what you think!

Anniversary Love.

May 22, 2014

Los Angeles, CA.

The other night it was our two-year anniversary and since it also marks the end of another chapter for us-long distance- (Eric just finished school in Boston & I’ve been living in Los Angeles) we decided to really celebrate!  Before having dinner at this adorable Italian spot, Locanda Veneta, we decided to exchange gifts and this year, I wanted to do something a little different- I decided to make my gift.   Now I definitely can’t take credit for coming up with this idea, I saw it on Pinterest, as a thirtieth birthday idea and then made a couple of changes to suit it for our anniversary.  In the original idea, there was a balloon and a photo for every year of the person’s life and so I decided to modify it a tad and do a balloon and a photo for every month we were together.  It was really simple- just get the photos together for each month, hole punch the top of the photo and attach a balloon.  I wanted to get as many colored balloons as possible to represent all the memories and moments, but you can really do whatever color scheme you want!

Luckily, I take a lot of pictures and could actually find one for each and every month.  It was fascinating to see how much traveling the two of us have done over the past two years, we never missed a month, and when you are living across the country that’s frequent flyer status!   The project will take you a bit of time and fitting 24 balloons in my small coupe was no easy feat but it was definitely worth it!  He really appreciated all of it and was totally surprised.  Let's be honest, I think anyone that walks into a room full of balloons unexpectedly is going to be blown away, right? Oh and side note- when I posted a photo of this yesterday, a ton of friends thought that E did this for me and were melting at the thought, so all you guys out there- if you're trying to make a lady swoon, this might just be an awesome idea.  Just don't say you found the idea here!

 It was so much fun for us to look back at all the memories together and it’s just so important to take moments like an anniversary or a birthday to remind your loved ones how much they truly mean to you.  Great friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, cousins, roommates- if you have great people around you- let them know!

And a huge thank you to Courtney for being there to capture this moment! Xo
