The Spring Transition

Beverly Hills, CA

I swung back to New England for the holiday weekend and the air is crisp, fresh and a bit chilly. Everyone is embracing the sunny weather though. I actually saw a guy driving around in a convertible, which made me laugh. In LA this weather would be considered frigid and back when I was living here I remember doing the same thing. 50 degrees in April?? That's what I used to call shorts weather!

Because I don't have the stamina I once had in high school, it's important to incorporate transitional spring pieces into your outfit.  I'm talking short-sleeve sweaters, lighter trench coats and yes a good pom pom cardigan (like this one from Goodnight Macaroon). As you start to incorporate more and more warm-weather pieces into your regular outfit rotation, interesting knits will keep you warm and give your look a unique little twist.

For days (on either coast) when it’s not too hot and not too cold, this sweater is a great alternative to a jacket. I love wearing this in my office (any season) because the AC is always dialed on the colder side. Plus, it effortlessly adds more polish to whatever you're wearing. Toss it over a dress, pair it with high-waisted trousers, or simply wear it over your favorite tee-shirt and jeans (like I did here). A textured, pom pom cardigan is the perfect spring staple piece. It gives your outfits that elevated, cool, yet cozy feel and is perfect for today's New England weather!

The sweater + skirt combo

Hollywood, CA

Does the weather seem to be getting COLDER in your world? Same here. A great way to shift into spring, while keeping warm, is the sweater and skirt combination. It's my favorite between-seasons uniform. Individually, sweaters and skirts are both closet staples, but when combined, the two are unstoppable. Combine a chunky turtleneck top with a dainty floral midi skirt or a printed sweater with an edgy leather skirtand you're ready to go (pretty much anywhere!) Combining different styles works really well for this look. I'm talking girly and tough, black on black, and everything else in between. Today, I'm wearing a cozy printed sweater with a wool mini skirt. The neutral palette and thicker material makes it perfect for the office, drinks and even a little cloudy LA afternoon date.

spring steps

West Hollywood, CA

It’s cold, it’s hot—the weather changes so much this time of year that it's impossible to know if you need duck boots or sandals when you step outside. And as we near the cusp of spring (yay!) I think it's a good time to pull out those transitional pieces that will carry you through both seasons (no matter the weather).

Working as a fashion editor for many years, I lived in heels but nowadays, I've found that an outfit can be just as stylish with a pair of comfy boots or sneakers. The Hattie Sneaker by Vionic proves that it's totally possible to be comfortable and look put together in a pair of kicks. In fact, Vionic designs all of their shoes with supportive technology so that you don't ever have to suffer through a day of painful walking again! And because I live on-the-go, I really need a pair of shoes that will keep up with the many steps I take a day (and not leave me with blistered feet). I love pairing these with blazers, dresses and maxi skirts for a bit of contrast.

Oh and can we talk about these jeans for just a second? Are they pants? Are they shorts? Doesn't matter. I'm comfortable, warm, and still able to feel a little breeze on the ankles.

Spring, I'm ready for ya!
