SHORT SLEEVE STAPLE SWEATERS

Newburyport, MA

When it comes to switching out your fall closet into winter, it's all about finding great transitional pieces—cue the short sleeve sweater. It is genius! If you live in a warmer climate (like I used to) or if you're spending most of your days working inside your home this winter, it is the perfect alternative to a bulky sweater. This gorgeous pink short sleeve sweater from Repeat Cashmere  is one you can throw on for any season. I love the refreshing blush hue and it works just as well tucked into skinnies as it does with a midi skirt for the holidays or work trousers.

And yes, I understand that cashmere has the reputation of being high-end and expensive, but the quality is definitely worth the investment. I continue to wear all of my beautiful Repeat Cashmere sweaters (see another post I shared here) and it keeps me warmer than some other bulkier options made with different materials. They have lots of beautiful cashmere short-sleeve sweaters to choose from so if you haven't already added one to your wardrobe, check them out.

MAKING MOVES

Plum Island, Massachusetts

IMG_4633.jpg

Two weeks ago, my boyfriend and I moved from Los Angeles, CA to Newburyport, MA. We put lots of our things in storage, packed my car with all that we could, and shipped it across the country. We are staying in a charming furnished home out here and we feel really lucky to have found it. Edgar and I are both working remotely for the next few months or so, which has allowed us some time to live and explore somewhere new.

It’s a BIG change of scenery for us, but so far, it’s been incredibly refreshing. We’re enjoying the chillier nights, festive fall activities, and being closer to my family (I grew up in New Hampshire and all my family is in New England). Newburyport is really the MOST charming little town! It is right on the water with great seafood, cafes, and architecture. I barely drive at all (which is a great change from my traffic-filled days in LA) and the streets remind me of a small city in England mixed with the streets in Sony’s studio backlot. What I am getting at is that they are so picturesque sometimes they look fake!

All that being said, Edgar has never lived anywhere cold and it has been many years since I have, so we’re hopeful that we will survive. I guess we shall see! Stay tuned for more on our new place, our new neighborhood, and all things New England over the coming months.

We took these photos at Plum Island which is right down the road from us. We’re both wearing shoes from Rockport Shoes Fall Collection paired with easy outfits that transition well from summer to fall. Our favorite thing about the shoes? They’re comfy enough to keep up with all the walking we’re doing out here.

FIND YOUR HAPPY

Newburyport, MA

IMG_2392.jpg

More than ever, I need outlets to stay positive these days. It has undoubtedly been a challenging time for everyone and with more isolation and division in this country than I can ever remember, it is easy to get down. That being said, I realized that no matter how rough it gets, we will never get this time back. That is why I have decided to spend my summer back home in New England with my family. I have felt so lucky to have this time with them and so as hard as it can be, I am trying to remember that our time is precious and we need to go towards things that make us happy.

I wore this floral maxi dress from Vagamundo to lunch with my Mum the other day and it gave me so much LIFE! It is a beautiful blend of boho and classic style. It is also by far and away the most fun dress to twirl and dance in. A dress that is super comfy, yet really easy to dress up, too? I’ll take a few more! (It actually does come in a few more colors). And right now, you can take 15% off your entire Vagamundo purchase using code: KELLY15. Enjoy!

Here are some other things that are helping me (at least a little) stay positive right now:

  • Surround yourself with positive people that love you. If someone doesn’t make you feel happy, don’t spend your time with them. Find your people (even if it is just one or two right now) and keep them close.

  • Pick up a new hobby and commit to having one thing to show from it. Whether it is running )(for me!) and sharing your daily mile count with a friend, or learning to cook and making a meal for someone, using the extra time to pursue a new hobby can feel really rewarding.

  • Get active about the things you care about. With so many injustices going on in the world, it is important to find a way to get involved, even if it is simply sending out emails or donating to a cause. It will help you feel less helpless.

  • Play great music throughout the day. You’ll be surprised how much this can help boost your mood.

  • Get outside (with a mask)! Back in LA, I found myself feeling really sad inside my apartment all day so eventually, I forced myself to go on walks around the neighborhood 2-3 times a day. It really helped!

  • Do one kind thing every day. This can be sending an email or a message at work to let someone know you appreciate their help or letting a stranger go ahead of you at the grocery store. No matter how small it is, it will help you feel more positive.
