Comfy, stylish and perfectly professional-- trouser pants really have it all! They’re undeniably feminine and about as classic as the beloved Annie Hall.  While it wasn’t exactly easy for me to make the transition from my go-to skinnies to the newer, silkier cuts that have made their way onto the scene, I feel like I’ve finally figured out how to make them my own.

These high-waisted maroon trousers are from Forever 21’s Contemporary line. They’re silky soft and pleated, which makes for a really flattering silhouette. I paired them with a flowy lilac top because I think the colors balance really nicely. What I love most about these pants, however, is the cropped ankles. It really shows off a great pair of shoes and helps to elongate your legs. With that in mind, I chose to wear these stunning new Coach sandals. They are a great ivory color so they pair well with just about everything.

I love this breezy, sophisticated look for spring.  How do you guys like to style your favorite pair of trousers?

This lookout is located just a few blocks from my office. It’s a great little escape that we frequent from time to time.  There are baseball fields, hiking trails, dog parks and running paths but mostly we go there for the views. It’s really breathtaking and this week, I needed a refreshing break. I love this shoot because Danny, my coworker, (and incredibly talented photographer) was able to capture exactly how we were feeling.  Sometimes to stay grounded, all you need is a little bit of air.

The Calm Between the Storms.

March 1, 2014

Los Angeles, CA.

Believe it or not its been chilly and rainy for the past couple of days here and the whole city is in shock.  The notion that people must still drive, work, and essentially function without our faithful friend, the sun, is just very challenging for most Los Angelenos (myself included).  If you don’t believe me, just try driving on a day like today- you’d swear that everyone is still asleep at the wheel.  That being said, I must admit that the city of LA is really not built for any type of rain/weather. After about twenty minutes of heavy rain, crowded intersections, major freeways, and parking lots, will quickly transform themselves into streams, rivers, and miniature ponds.  With very little drainage, the sidewalks will gush with tiny waterfalls, and if you’re trying to get anywhere on foot without real deal rain boots and an umbrella, you might as well just wear a bathing-suit and go for a swim because you are going to get drenched.

In a place where you never really have anything but gorgeous weather, the saying “when it rains, it pours” truly applies.  When we do get weather, it comes at us hard.  Flood and mudslide warnings are in full effect and I went to sleep to the sounds of crashing thunder.  However, while it may be a drag to get rain in most places, I think everyone here loves and appreciates the rainy days.  Not only has it been desperately dry here, but it’s an excuse to take a break and relax for a change.  When it’s always so nice out- you tend to feel obligated to get out there and do something, but it’s nice to feel like you can just stay in, watch movies and do absolutely nothing every once and a while- at least that’s how I feel anyways!

Thus, while I’m currently cozied up in my apartment drinking hot chocolate, listening to the pouring rain outside, this morning there was a break in the weather, and since Eric is in town this weekend,  and our Saturday morning ritual is to get brunch at Twist, we decided to take our chances and walk over, savoring the last few moments of dry air.

I chose to wear my new strawberry coat from Zara, that I got for my trip back east, but was actually too cold to wear.  I love funnel collar.  It makes the look so versatile and allows the coat to be as sophisticated and warm (all buttoned up) or open and casual as you want, while giving it a great shape.  I also love the color.  Pastels are my new obsession for this spring, and so even though it’s still quite chilly, gloomy, and stormy, I love that this jacket still allows you to feel warm and bright.  I paired it with a cropped sweater tank and blue printed trousers, also from Zara.  These pants are incredibly comfortable and again, perfect for transitioning from winter to spring.  They are certainly going to be a staple in my wardrobe over the coming months.

Happy weekending everyone & stay dry!

Patriots Aftermath.

January 20, 2014

Los Angeles, CA

Ok well first off- I have to address the elephant in the room (would it be “elephant on the screen?”) Anyways, I’m sure the big question on all your minds right now is, of course, what my thoughts are on yesterdays Patriots game.  Am I right?  Well guys, the simple answer is, while it was certainly rough one (I’m talking ROUGH), I’m still proud of them for making it so far this year.  Oh and ya know what I also appreciated?  Even though they lost, Tom Brady still wore quite the eye-catching suit in the post-game interview. I mean, that could’ve been a really somber and depressing press conference, and maybe it was, but I was totally distracted by his fashionable attire the whole time so I couldn’t even tell you if it was or not!  All I know is that I am already looking forward to another season of Tom Brady and his post-game press conference attire.

Although they say it’s winter (and I’ve been trying my best to dress accordingly) it’s just about as wintery as a day at the beach for me today here in Southern California.  I have some family in town from back east and they have assured me that it is freezing back home and so we made sure to enjoy the long weekend over at the beach.  That’s right- I’m talking bathing suit weather.  We went for ice cream, woke up to take early morning strolls on the beach, played a few rounds of ski-ball at the arcade and- I even saw a few seals yesterday!  Having family in town is amazing and somehow, no matter how much time we spend together, it never seems to be enough.

I chose this bright and airy outfit for today’s lunch down at Enterprise Fish Co. before I have to drop my cousin at the airport.  I’ve always been too scared to wear these high-waisted flowy pants because they can be a bit unforgiving, but I figured what the heck- It’s 80 in January, I’m going to take a risk!   They’re really comfortable- it’s like wearing PJ’s- and if you pair them with some heels or booties like I did here, you can dress the outfit up a lot.

Happy MLK Day!
