Neutrals Are the New Black

Sometimes less really is more.

For a refreshing spring feel, reintroduce yourself light colors and neutral shades.  Today, I’ve decided to trade in my traditional LBD for this breezy slip dress from Ruche.  Delicate and feminine, it’s a flirty alternative to basic date night looks. Don’t you love the pretty pleats and ruffled neckline?

I think it pairs best with classic designs and colors so I chose to style it with nude ankle strap pumps, a pastel bracelet and an antique-feel necklace.

Sweet Sweet Wintertime

February 11, 2014

Los Angeles, CA

say what.jpg

Say what?

It’s eighty degrees in February? I’ll take it!
Yes it’s summer in Los Angeles this week.  The air is warm and everyone’s beginning to think of the lighter brighter days ahead. I’m soaking up these jacket-less evenings and breezy sun-kissed afternoon lunch breaks because although it’s never really cold here, this week has certainly felt like a treat.

Ok so I am actually laughing at myself as I type this because while yes it is great to have a bit of a heat wave here, I can’t help but acknowledge the fact that I have lost my sense of the seasons. My family and friends, who live back east, talk about snow and Arctic-like temps almost daily. It seems like every time I speak to them there is another blizzard! In fact, my sister informed me yesterday that her husband was quite literally skiing to work in the city of Boston.

Say Whaaat??!

Regardless of your current climate, spring is truly right around the corner (I swear!) and brightening your look is as easy as adding a vibrant color or flirty print!

Today, I attempted to make wardrobe mixing chic with this fiery floral and polka-dot combo. In the spirit of Valentines Day, I went with a look that is perfectly ladylike and ultra femme.  This ruffled blouse tucks in nicely to a high-waisted skirt or fitted trouser pant and a bold red lip gives your look a playful final touch.

If you’re going for a casual afternoon soiree this V-Day, this is perfect.  I have included some similar outfit ideas below for those of you in colder climates too!

Polkadot Crazed.

June 20, 2014.

23rd St. Santa Monica, CA.

My mum has been in town visiting and it has been such a treat.  There really isn’t anything better than a houseguest who also makes the bed, cooks my favorite breakfast in the morning, and consistently reminds me that the city of Los Angeles (the same one that I’ve slowly learned to take for granted) is quite beautiful.  Taking in the sights that have become my everyday, she remarks at the beautiful tree-lined streets in my neighborhood, the lack of bugs in the evening (we tend to get a lot back in New Hampshire), and the tall buildings that tower over us as we eat dinner outside on a nearby restaurant patio.  Having my lovely Mum out here has been like hiring my own personal Tony Robbins mentor for the week and it’s really rejuvenated my soul!

Last night we got dressed up and went to dinner down on Montana in Santa Monica with some friends.  We made sure to do some window shopping, sneak a quick view of the Pacific, and relax with a couple glasses of wine- a perfect night out for a couple ladies like us!

Although this outfit has quickly become one my favorite date night go-to’s (remember it from our anniversary post?) it was also quite fitting for my mom-daughter ladies night too.  It's fun to dress up with my Mum!  I put on some bold lipstick, she wore a statement necklace, and we were ready to hit the town.  And what was even better, since we ended up doing quite a bit of walking, I brought along my Oxfords and jean jacket and the outfit became a bit more casual/ appropriate for walking along the beach.  Thus this is really the perfect day to night dress! I love the sweetheart top of this dress and this adorable piece has only deepend my obsession with polkadots.  I can’t seem to get enough these days!
